Sports angling from the shore or a boat and underwater spear-gun fishing are some of the sports Poreč offers, but should you want to go sea fishing during your holiday you will need to obtain a license. Your hooks will most often bring in flathead grey mullets, annular sea breams, sea breams, pickerels and European sea bass, gilthead sea breams, groopers, squid (calamari) and common cuttlefish.
A fishing license is necessary for sports angling, hand-line fishing, fishing with a trawl-line with up to 150 hooks, tuna fishing and big game fishing as well as for underwater spear-gun fishing. Licenses are valid for 1, 3, 7 or 30 days and can be purchased in authorised tourist agencies and offices. The price of an individual license depends on the length of its validity, and it is necessary to obtain special licenses for fishing tuna, swordfish and long billed Mediterranean spearfish. As a sports fisherman you are not allowed to sell anything you catch and the maximum daily catch is 5 kg.
